What's good

  • Length lets you mend 40 feet of line and hold a float drift naturally
  • Parabolic action means light leaders survive a headshake that would break a stiffer rod
  • Balances a centerpin properly — the rod is designed for that, not adapted to it
  • Handles fresh chrome in high water without you having to horse it

What isn't

  • Useless from a boat and awkward in tight, brushy tributary sections
  • Long, soft blanks are easy to break high-sticking a fish at your feet
  • The bottom grip section rattles loose on two-piece models and needs periodic ferrule wax

We list the drawbacks because a recommendation with no downside is a sales pitch. If a cheaper item does the job on your water, the write-up says so.
